Case Study No. 2

An inner west high school required a compact, simple stage and performance area to be constructed in the music department. This was to be used for band rehearsals and performance exams.

Training of students in use of sound and lighting equipment was also a goal.

A timber stage was constructed with’ in floor’ patch points for audio and power. Of particular concern was that no fixing to the floor was possible due to main structural stressed concreate members in the floor below being present.

Cosmetic wall panels prohibited the use of speaker wall brackets. Bespoke speaker mounts were fabricated as part of the stage, to avoid using speaker stands and keep the area safe and tidy.

A new lighting bar was installed and rigged off existing structural beams. LED lighting fixtures and controls complete the lighting package. The audio system was required to be compact and operable from various places, so a mixer that was both versatile and small was combined with a WiFi router to offer tablet control. Blue tooth audio connectivity for playback audio completed the package.

Staff members were delighted with the result that provides almost a nightclub atmosphere during open days and special events with a functional, natural space for performances to take place.
